Little Manu lived in Kashi long ago.
She learned to ride a horse to and fro.
Then she grew up to be a Queen.
The bravest leader we have seen.
Jhansi was her home so dear.
She fought the bad guys with no fear.
With a sword, she stood so tall.
She never let her people fall.
India loves her memory today.

The Brave Queen of Jhansi
Rani Lakshmi Bai is one of India’s greatest heroes. She was born on November 19, 1828, in Kashi (now Varanasi). Her birth name was Manikarnika, but her family lovingly called her “Manu.” Sadly, she lost her mother when she was only four years old, so her father raised her.
From a very young age, Manu was brave and smart. She did not just play with dolls; she learned how to ride horses, use a sword, and practice martial arts. She grew up with friends like Nana Sahib and Tatya Tope, who also became famous freedom fighters later in life.
When she was 14, she married the King of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao, and became known as Rani Lakshmi Bai. After her husband passed away, she became the Queen of Jhansi. The British rulers tried to take over her kingdom, but she refused to give up.
In 1857, during India’s first war for freedom, Rani Lakshmi Bai fought like a true warrior to protect her home. Even when she had to leave Jhansi, she did not stop. She captured the city of Gwalior with the help of her friend, Tatya Tope.
In June 1858, she died while fighting for Gwalior. She gave her life for our country’s freedom. Today, we remember her as a brave leader whose courage will always inspire us.
